Sri Rama is considered the incarnation of the Sun. He is called Purushottama or “the best among mortal men”. In the great Vedic epic Sri Ramayana, even though Sri Rama had to undergo tremendous hurdles and odds in his life, he never for once digressed from his Dharma or moral code of conduct. That is the greatest strength of the noble Sun in astrology. There is not one character flaw in Lord Rama.
Accordingly, In Lord Rama Birth Chart there were five grahas which were in their exaltation and own house. Moreover, it is apparent from the text that Predictive Astrology dealing with fortunes of individual through study of Gochara of planets was not in vogue in those days. Coming events were foreseen mostly from ‘omen’. Jyotisha in usage concerned itself mainly with identifying salient events in terms of Panchanga i.e. nakshatra, tithi, vaara, etc. Instances are aplenty in the texts of Valmiki in support of this inference. The bare factual birth data one can elicit from the original text of Valmiki Ramayana is that Sri Rama was born at noon on Chaitra Sukla Navami tithi in Punarvasu Nakshatra when five grahas had attained the status of own house and exaltation. Since he has specifically mentioned the status of five grahas, the other two, by implication, were in signs other than their own or exaltation ones.
Even though he is an incarnation of Lord Vishnu himself, he lived like a mortal during the Treta Yuga. He passionately engaged with Prakrithi or his surroundings while remaining dispassionate or detached at the same time.
